Instructions and Care
When you receive your kit, inspect it for any damage during shipping. If it appears to be in good condition, you're ready to start growing!
1. Start by washing your hands thoroughly and preparing a clean workspace.
2. Before making the cut, make sure that 75% of the grow bag is colonized with mycelium. This is important for successful fruiting. This means that the white, stringy substance (mycelium) has grown over 75% of the substrate (the brown material) in the bag.
3. Locate the area on the bag where you want to make your cut. It's recommended to make a cut that's about 1-2 inches wide and 0.5 inch deep. The middle of the bag is usually a good choice.
4. Water the area where you will make the cut using a spray bottle. This helps to keep the area moist and helps with the growth of the mushrooms. You can soak it 24 hrs in cold water if you'd like.
5. Mist the cut with a spray bottle three times per day to keep the humidity levels high. At this initial stage, before pinning forms, you want to make sure that the cut always stays wet.
6. Keep the grow kit in a warm, dark place, ideally between 65-75°F (18-24°C) and away from direct sunlight or drafts.
7. To increase humidity, you can also create a mini greenhouse effect by covering the bag with a clear plastic dome or placing it inside a larger plastic bag.
8. Depending on the species, mushrooms can take anywhere from 7-15 days to fully mature. When they're ready, simply twist and pull the mushrooms off the block.
9. To get a second or third mushrooms flush even, make sure your kit stays properly hydrated. After your first mushroom flush, soak your kit in cold water for 24 hrs, then tape the original cut up with tape, and cut another hole on another side of the bag.
It's a good idea to do your own research on the specific species you're growing to optimize your growing conditions. If you have any questions or concerns, don't hesitate to contact us - we're happy to help!
